Public Liability Insurance? Venues are increasingly requesting proof of liability insurance cover.
Venues set the level of liability required to be in place before an entertainer performs. If the DJ performer does not provide liability cover in advance of function date / upon request, it is highly likely that the DJ will be refused entry / turned away from the venue.
Venues have the right to eject services from their premises. To avoid embarrassment on night, it is advisable for the DJ performer to arrange for public liability cover, preferably fourteen days in advance of the date in question. This period is suggested to allow for exchange of paperwork within a reasonable time frame.

Discounted Equipment Insurance from Hencilla Canworth
Here's what Hugh McGuiness said about obtaining discounted equipment insurance from:

Dear DJ@
Just a quick email to tell you that I have made use of the equipment insurance scheme as advertised on the DJ@ website. I contacted Mark Hopkinson and he sent me through the proposal forms. I filled them in, listed all my kit and gave prices required for replacements etc. and he gave me a very reasonable quote.
I said that I wanted to add the unattended van cover as well, it was an extra but well worth being able to sleep at night.
Anyway, replacement of my kit came to £10,888.00 and the premium asked for was £275.57
I thought this was great. I know there will be other members that will be saying that they could spend that money better in the current climate, but think this through.
The cost is only what any professional DJ will charge for one nights work. Any DJ that values their equipment should think about this, what would you do if your van was stolen tomorrow and your kit is still in it..?
Could you entertain at a wedding this weekend….!!!!! Trust me when I tell you I am sleeping a lot better at night.
I think this a great deal and would like to thank the admin team for contacting the insurance company and arranging this discount.
Hugh McGuiness

How technology is pushing DJs to extinction
14th January 2010
By Dan Dukesy - http://www.djassociates.org
Facing increases in duty on beer, competition from supermarkets, changes in social trends, it's hard to escape the facts that 1,000's of pubs and club venues have closed over the last few years. Recently, it was announced that 11 pubs per week are closing across London and many more will undoubtedly close in the future.
Venues are fighting for their survival and looking towards ways of saving money as well as generating custom. Little surprise then, that venues have turned to companies which offer solutions to save them money yet still allow the venue to offer a variety of entertainment in the form of a ‘management system’, which can be used every night and effectively costs less than most Jukebox only hire schemes and of course, DJs.
Electronic entertainment management systems are not new, but the level of sophistication, quality and support today is impressive.
Instead of a venue manager paying more than £80.00 for ONE NIGHT's entertainment, he or she can pay £80.00 a WEEK for a system which will provide 24/7 entertainment - every night of the week ranging from race nights to bingo to Karaoke, etc.
So, if the manager uses the system in some capacity every night, it will cost £80.00, so divided by 7 = £11.43 per night. That's £48.57 cheaper than Sixty Quid Sid!
