Public Liability Insurance?

Venues are increasingly requesting proof of liability insurance cover.

Venues set the level of liability required to be in place before an entertainer performs.

If the DJ performer does not provide liability cover in advance of function date / upon request, it is highly likely that the DJ will be refused entry / turned away from the venue.

Venues have the right to eject services from their premises.

To avoid embarrassment on night, it is advisable for the DJ performer to arrange for public liability cover, preferably fourteen days in advance of the date in question.  This period is suggested to allow for exchange of paperwork within a reasonable time frame.

Join the DJ Association as a full member and benefit from full dj public liability insurance cover and further membership benefits.

Discounted Equipment Insurance from Hencilla Canworth

Here's what Hugh McGuiness said about obtaining discounted equipment insurance from:

Hencilla Canworth

Dear DJ@

Just a quick email to tell you that I have made use of the equipment insurance scheme as advertised on the DJ@ website.  I contacted Mark Hopkinson and he sent me through the proposal forms.  I filled them in, listed all my kit and gave prices required for replacements etc. and he gave me a very reasonable quote.

I said that I wanted to add the unattended van cover as well, it was an extra but well worth being able to sleep at night.

Anyway, replacement of my kit came to £10,888.00 and the premium asked for was £275.57

I thought this was great. I know there will be other members that will be saying that they could spend that money better in the current climate, but think this through.

The cost is only what any professional DJ will charge for one nights work.  Any DJ that values their equipment should think about this, what would you do if your van was stolen tomorrow and your kit is still in it..?

Could you entertain at a wedding this weekend….!!!!!  Trust me when I tell you I am sleeping a lot better at night.

I think this a great deal and would like to thank the admin team for contacting the insurance company and arranging this discount.

How technology is pushing DJs to extinction

14th January 2010

By Dan Dukesy - http://www.djassociates.org

Facing increases in duty on beer, competition from supermarkets, changes in social trends, it's hard to escape the facts that 1,000's of pubs and club venues have closed over the last few years.  Recently, it was announced that 11 pubs per week are closing across London and many more will undoubtedly close in the future.

Venues are fighting for their survival and looking towards ways of saving money as well as generating custom.  Little surprise then, that venues have turned to companies which offer solutions to save them money yet still allow the venue to offer a variety of entertainment in the form of a ‘management system’, which can be used every night and effectively costs less than most Jukebox only hire schemes and of course, DJs.

Electronic entertainment management systems are not new, but the level of sophistication, quality and support today is impressive.

Instead of a venue manager paying more than £80.00 for ONE NIGHT's entertainment, he or she can pay £80.00 a WEEK for a system which will provide 24/7 entertainment -  every night of the week ranging from race nights to bingo to Karaoke, etc.

So, if the manager uses the system in some capacity every night, it will cost £80.00, so divided by 7 = £11.43 per night.  That's £48.57 cheaper than Sixty Quid Sid!

Advice on booking a mobile disco

DJ Association Advice

Just how easy is it to relax and enjoy your night, knowing you've booked a DJ who takes their DJ'ing and Mobile Disco business seriously?  What should you consider when booking mobile disco entertainment?

Here are 10 tips and pointers to help you on your way.  Please do not hesitate to contact the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association if you need any further advice on booking a mobile disco.

1. Although it may look that a mobile disco and DJ is only paid for performing for a few hours on the night, an experienced reputable mobile DJ will invest over five times that amount to ensure that your event is an excellent occasion and above all, memorable!

2. Many considerations are overlooked when booking, for example, a specialist Wedding Disco or Mobile DJ.

The event preparation, client consultation meetings, business investment and even license requirements which all add and contribute towards the success of the special event are factors which have to be taken on board especially for

what is supposedly one of the most important days of adult life.  Yet because people do not book Wedding Discos or Mobile Discos everyday, the focus of an enquiry usually centralizes around the cost of the Disco entertainment as opposed to the mobile DJs service and what is actually included in the price.

3. Generally, clients of mobile disco or wedding disco services are not interested in the brand name of the mobile DJs equipment, how many knobs the DJs mixer has or who designed the disco entertainers DJ case!   But the client will expect the disco service to know their business and what clients should be expecting as a good level of service.

The association suggests that you arrange a face to face meeting with your Wedding Disco Entertainment or mobile disco and discuss in depth exactly what you are looking for.

4. You'll expect the music repertoire of the mobile DJ entertainer to be broad and suitably  presented in an appropriate fashion during the Wedding Reception or private party.  The DJs experience and background needs to be of a standard you are satisfied will meet your function requirements and expectations.

5. Whilst music should be delivered in a clear fashion, the aesthetics of the DJs lighting should not distract but enhance the function proceedings as appropriate lighting helps add atmosphere to the occasion.  The mobile djs or wedding djs disco set-up should be neat and tidy, unobtrusive to the eye and not dominating in the venue / function room.

6. Wedding Receptions in the UK are of course more sophisticated year on year and the aesthetics of the mobile DJ entertainers set-up for visual impact is increasingly under scrutiny.

For example, you may require a hi-profile 'night-club' theme to reflect the occasion with lighting gantry and speakers from floor to ceiling, or maybe an elegant and discreet affair for the stylish and sophisticated setting.

7. You will appreciate that a mobile DJ service is so much more appealing from an experienced quality entertainer - who actually adds value and enhances your function.

Further, professional DJ services carry back-up equipment, are indemnified for public liability, their DJ equipment used is looked after and well maintained.

8. When the microphone needs to be engaged, it is done responsibly and in an experienced fashion.  Even the entertainers attire is appropriate to the occasion and smart.

9. Whilst there are some great mobile discos and disco service deals available, never consider that the best price will always be the best deal especially for one off events such as a Wedding Reception.

Interestingly, according to the surveys conducted by Wedding Forums and Bridal Magazines both here and abroad, around 75 - 80% of newlyweds would have invested more in their Wedding (DJ) entertainment as a priority, given hindsight!

10. If you allow plenty of time to book your Wedding Reception or private party disco entertainment and do a little research before you make your decision, you'll avoid disappointment on the night!
